Materials specification

The standard specification on every HRC Roof. Variations for a specific building are set out in your written scope.

Slate Typically 24″ × 12–14″, 7–10 mm thick
Timber Valley timbers 4×1 treated, with gaps maintained; fillets 5×2
Membrane Roofshield (Don & Low)

Firewall systems

Two ways to separate adjoining roofs, depending on whether the terrace has a visible party wall.

Standard

HRC Firewall

The masonry party wall is brought up through the roof with copper capping and separation. Fire-safe, ventilated and period-correct.

For continuous terraces

HRC Inline Firewall

For terraces with no visible party wall. A hidden internal firewall, with no visible copper above the roofline.

  1. Felt cut back over the battens on both sides
  2. Battens cut at the party wall
  3. Masonry built up to batten height
  4. Slates bedded in lime and mechanically fixed

Valleys & outlets

Water leaves the roof the way it should.

  • Improved drainage falls on rebuilt valley timbers
  • Stepped details at changes of direction
  • No soldered modern outlets on conservation roofs
Long copper box gutter between slate roof slopes
