Copper valley detail on a slate roof

What is it?

A finished product with a repeatable spec, not a finger-in-the-air re-roof.

The HRC Roof™ is our trademarked, conservation-grade roofing system, covering everything from the timbers to the ridge.

Every roof starts with understanding how the old building behaves: where water goes, where it gets trapped, and how the original craftsmen solved it. We then design the details and make them properly, by hand, in copper, slate and lime.

You get the same specification, documentation and warranty on every job, so you know exactly what you’re paying for before work begins.

What every HRC Roof includes

  • Scaffolding (project-specific setup)
  • Strip & remove existing coverings
  • Salvage and reuse of original slate (where sound)
  • Removal of old valleys (lead or copper, as applicable)
  • Rebuild valley timbers with correct falls
  • New 0.6 mm copper valleys (period-correct)
  • High-quality breather membrane (Roofshield by Don & Low)
  • New counter-battens & battens fixed to correct centres (stainless or copper fixings)
  • Full re-slate (original slate reused where possible)
  • Copper chimney flashings (traditional)
  • HRC firewall (copper separation at party walls) or HRC Inline Firewall (hidden internal firewall for continuous terraces)
  • Lime-bedded clay ridge tiles (no cement)
  • Replacement or upgrade of outlets
  • Cast iron or cast aluminium rainwater goods (no plastic)

Extras, priced separately where needed

  • Chimney repointing or rebuilding
  • Re-bedding of copings and cappings
  • Replacement of cast iron or aluminium gutters & downpipes beyond the standard allowance
  • Structural rafter or timber repairs outside valley zones

Any extras are identified in your condition report and written scope, so there are no surprises.

The detail is the difference

Custom junctions wherever they’re needed. These details are what make an HRC Roof last.
